Thanks for your interest, Arvind.  To see how we are using this site for group work, check out the links under "WSUC Group Work Area" in the menu panel to the left.

One concern I have is to make sure that my group members are sufficiently trained and supported so that they are able to use the wiki to its fullest capacity.  Fortunately, the instructions provided by "editme.com" are good.  Additionally, I plan to conduct a training session using a voice phone connection while my group members are accessing the site from their places of work.  This is a simple, no-cost approach to user training that I think will work quite well.

A concern for the future is the security of discussion pages that are closed to the public.  When the time comes, I will probably write the folks at editme.com to get more info on this issue.

Regards - mark ulmer

By the way, Arvind, are you Norwegian?  Your name sounds as though you might be.  Om du er Norsk, jeg snakker spraaket ditt, mer eller mindre.

Mark,

I'm trying something similar... checkout bapa.editme.com - As for page security, I have a feeling that it's not secure at all. It should not be used for confidential information that could lead to fraud etc... the pages are hidden from public view, but not encrypted. A hacker or anyone in your bandwidth chain can access the info...

btw - Arvind is an Indian name (could be Norwegian too!)

And check out bloki.com too.

Cheers - sanjayjainuk at yahoo.co.uk

Mark - nice site! FYI - we are planning to add SSL support in version 2.0 coming out (hopefully) late summer or fall. SSL encrypts all communication with the server and makes the site quite secure.  Cheers!

Ghosts stop barn demolition Officials in the northern Norwegian city of Tromsø have withdrawn their order that a local farmer tear down an old barn on his property. They accepted his argument that demolishing the barn will anger the ghosts living under it. The barn is located in Tromvik, on an island on the outskirts of Tromsø township. Local officials had called the dilapidated building a hazard and ordered it to be torn down. Its owner protested, claiming that he didn't dare go near the barn himself. "Many years ago, I removed its roof," he wrote in a letter to the building officials. "The result was that I had several encounters with the underworld. And I fell gravely ill. "There are underworld creatures living in that barn," the man wrote. "My entire family knows about this." He wrote that he'd be glad to allow others to tear down the building, if they dare to do so. He won't stand in the way of a wrecking crew, but whoever takes on the job must also be willing to suffer the consequences. That was enough for the building officials to back off, but they still want the structure secured so that it's not a danger to animals or children. The owner agreed to make improvements, and a local university researcher lauded the consideration shown to local beliefs. "Sometimes we just have to accept that there's more between heaven and earth than between the files and rules in the township's building code," Tromsø building chief Hallvard Thon told local newspaper Tromsø.

Hey, are you the same Mark Ulmer that I knew from Sells in 1986? Good to see you if so. Drop me a line at mrevenaugh@earthlink.net so we can compare notes on the life as it has evolved over the last couple decades.
